Cat’s wedding

The so-called cat’s wedding (in Czech Kočičí svatba) is a traditional Czech folk cheap dish originating from the Southern Bohemia. It consists of cooked peas and lenses mixed with salt, pepper and garlic, accompanied by bacon.

4 serves

Ingredients:

  • 300 g yellow peas
  • 105 g grits
  • 100 g fat
  • a pinch of cumin
  • a handful of marjoram
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 60 g greaves or bacon
  • pepper
  • salt

Preparation process:

Sorted pre-soak peas cook until soft. Rinse groats, pre-soak them and cook with a spoon of lard and cumin (put enough water because groats get burn easy). Decant water from the boiled peas and groats and mix both. Season with salt and pepper, add marjoram, pressed garlic and a little bit of fat and warm lightly.

Serve with greaves or bacon and the best also with salad of sauerkraut, or at least with pickles.
