Potato soup

Potato soup known as “bramboračka”. This soup is easy for preparation and inexpensive. In Czech Republic it is usually eaten without special occasion.

4 serves, preparation time 35 minutes


  • 2 carrots
  • 1 parsley
  • 1/2 celery
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • salt and pepper
  • pinch of ground cumin
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1.5 liters chicken broth
  • 2 handfuls of dried mushrooms (or 100 g frozen mushrooms)
  • 4 large potatoes
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 handful of dried marjoram

Preparation process:

Cleaned vegetables slice into small pieces and roast on a tablespoon of butter. Add the pepper and the cumin. In another pot fry the chopped onion on two tablespoons of butter until it’s become gold. Then sprinkle it with flour, again let become gold and then pour one third of the broth. Stir the mixture, add the roasted vegetable and add the rest of the broth. Stir the mushrooms (you can pre-soak them), the sliced potatoes, garlic and salt. Bring to a boil, season with marjoram and cook for about 15 minutes.
