Cabbage soup with sausage

Cabbage soup with sausage known in Czech as “zelná polévka s klobásou” or “zelňačka”. Cabbage soup is best the second or third day.

4 serves, preparation time 1 hour


  • 300 g sour cabbage
  • 150 g smoked bacon
  • 100 g sausage
  • 1/2 cup of cream
  • 3 tablespoons lard
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1.5 liters broth
  • 1 small onion
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 5 peppercorns
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 teaspoons sweet pepper
  • salt

Preparation process:

Cook smoked bacon until soft. Finely chopped onion roast in lard, add a portion of the flour, roast, mix pepper, a few spoons of broth, roast again, pour the rest of the broth and bring to a boil. Add to the soup cut sour cabbage, spices and finely crushed garlic. When the cabbage is softened, remove bay leaf and pepper, thicken the soup with the cream mixed with flour and cook. Add salt to taste and add the diced bacon and chopped sausage.
